Mr. Julius D. Griggs

Julius Duncan Griggs, 85, affectionately known as "J.D." to his family and friends, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 7, 2025.

J.D. was born in Ruby, SC on September 25, 1940 to Julian P. and Bessie L. Griggs. J.D. attended Chesterfield County Schools; he loved to work with his hands and was a highly skilled and well respected Diesel Technician. During his career, he was employed by Cummins Diesel, Thurston Motor Lines and Allied Systems, as well as being a business owner of his own small fleet of 18-wheel trucks.

J.D. was a "country boy" and enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football and NASCAR, eating chocolate chip cookies and fixing things, however his passion was his family. J.D. was sincere and loyal to his family and friends beyond measure, and he will forever be loved and missed. Everyone who knew J.D., enjoyed spending time with him because of his calm, caring and jovial spirit.

Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Jean (Deanie) Cribb Griggs; Son, Ricky Lynn Griggs; Daughter, Angela Denise (Angie) Griggs Buxton (Tom); Grandchildren, Candace Alexandra Griggs, Cameron Vance Griggs and Ezra Huggins Griggs.

Pallbearers will be Grady Gulledge (Honorary), Richie Cribb, Scott Cribb, Marty Cribb, Brad Melton, Jamison Melton and Tony Melton.

J.D. was predeceased in death by his parents Julian P. And Bessie L. Griggs; Brothers, Everette Griggs and Floyd Griggs of Chesterfield, SC; Sisters, Willie Pittman and Annie Mae Jackson of Ruby, SC, Sarah Gibson of Kannapolis, NC and Bertie Cagle of Hopkins, SC, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The Griggs family would like to express their gratitude to VIA Health Partners for their compassionate and exceptional healthcare during this difficult time.

The funeral service to celebrate Mr. J.D.'s life will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday, December 11th, 2025 at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 o'clock until 2 o'clock. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209.
