With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the peaceful passing of Julius Lee Sanders Rice, who entered eternal rest on December 31, 2025, at the age of 81. Julius was born on August 1, 1944, in Winterville, North Carolina, to the late Roosevelt Sanders and Judy Mae Boyd.

Julius was a devoted wife for 60 years to her beloved husband, Lucious Edward Rice. Their marriage was a true partnership, built on commitment, resilience, family and unwavering love. Together, they weathered life's joys and hardships side by side and were proud to work alongside one another for many years at Pratt & Whitney, where their bond extended beyond home into shared purpose and dedication.

A strong-willed woman with a sharp sense of humor, Julius had a personality that could never be overlooked. She spoke her mind, stood firmly in who she was, and left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. While she was not always soft-spoken, her presence was powerful, and her wit brought laughter and unforgettable moments to those who knew her best. Julius was unapologetically herself, and it was this authenticity that made her so memorable and deeply loved.

In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory her children, Keith Edward Rice and Anthony Rice; her grandchildren, Alyssa Julie Rice, Alec Lucious Rice, Aliyah Monet' Lewis, Adrian Strong, and Keshawna Rice; and her siblings, Ollie Vera, Lois Ann Tindal, and Vernestine Sanders-Pascal.

Julius was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lorna Jean Rice, a loss she carried with quiet strength and enduring love; her sister, Edie; and her brothers, David, Fred, and James Henry.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight Street, New Haven, Connecticut followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
