June Teater Blackford of Nicholasville, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 9, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of James “Jim” Blackford of 69 years and the daughter of the late Robin Carroll and Buford Teater. She was a member of the Nicholasville Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir for 27 years, a member of the Wise Sunday School class, and a member of the Ruth Hager Circle. She was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and taught Home Economics at Anderson County High School and Nicholasville High School. She was also employed by Blue Grass Energy and was a part-time employee of the Village Shop.
She was a Girl Scout leader and Service Unit Chairman, a member of the Oak Hill Homemakers, the Jessamine County Woman’s Club, and Daughters of the Union. She served as a Jessamine County precinct worker for 40 years.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Blackford; her children, Ann Blackford of Lexington, and Jim Lee Blackford (Stephanie) of Florida; two granddaughters, Molly and Maddy Blackford; and several cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 14, at Betts & West Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 15, at Nicholasville Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Thompson officiating. Additional visitation will be hosted for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Doug Blackford, Robert Blackford, Ricky Blackford, Dale Teater, Doug Teater, Kevin Degler, Tom Orme, and Gerald Cobb. Honorary bearers will be the Wise Sunday School Class, the Ruth Hager Circle, Janelle Ragland, Amador Gonzalez, and Russell Guy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to go to the Methodist Children’s Home, 1115 Ashgrove Pike, Nicholasville, KY 40356, or to one’s favorite charity.
