June Blankenship Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 7, 2023.
FORT WORTH - June Frances Blankenship, 89, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023.
Graveside: 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, at Greenwood Memorial Park.
June was born Nov. 21, 1933, to Thomas and Francis Dennis in Fort Worth. She graduated Northside High School where she was a member of the marching band and started working as a Candy Striper. She worked at Frances' Midget Cafe and later retired from Sears Outlet in Haltom City and Coomer's Craft Mall in Lake Worth.
June grew up on Refugio Street in Fort Worth's Northside. She met her husband, Bobby Joe Blankenship on her 16th birthday at the Midget Cafe, in the stockyards, when he was delivering meat to the restaurant. When introduced, he threw her over his lap and gave her 16 spankings. She jumped up, called him a few choice words and ran out the back door. They were married the following year. Together they bought their first home in Haltom City, on Voncille Street and lived there for more than fifty-years. In 2006, she built her dream home on their acreage in Dido, Texas, and made a wonderful place for family and grandkids to call home. June lived for family and nothing was ever more important than being around those she loved.
June got her pilot's license in the late 50's and flew an Aeronca Chief. She enjoyed working at the farm, mowing the pasture, 4 wheeling, gardening, ceramics, road trips, antiquing with her sisters, vacationing with family, but most of all she loved her sleepovers with grandkids and great-grandkids.
She was "The Best Nanny Ever"!
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Joe Blankenship, Sr.; and brother, Thomas Ely Dennis, Jr.

Nanny had a way of making each of us feel like we where her #1 favorite grandchild. She had a way of giving you all the strength and courage you need by reminding you that you are strong, beautiful, and intelligent and that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to! You could call her at your lowest moment and she would raise you up! She never sat around pouting, lazy or sad. She would say you have to get up and keep going. You can cry but then you have to dry it up and move on. Recently she was telling me that she loved me more than I will ever know. I feel the same for you too, Nan. I know Papa has been waiting patiently for you as he has watched over all us down here on earth.
