June Marie Broughton, of Colorado Springs, aged 90, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024. June was born on May 16, 1934, in Lamar, Colorado. June was born and raised in Lamar, which is where she met her husband, Eldon. They were married, June 25, 1952, and Eldon soon joined the military. They made homes in several different states and made three trips overseas, to Germany, during their military service. June and Eldon had five children. When Eldon ended his military service, the family settled in Buena Vista, Colorado and started a small antique/furniture store. Eventually, the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and started Broughton's Antique and Auction Company.
When Eldon passed away, June went to work for Platte Furniture in Colorado Springs and after working there for several years, June opened her own antique store and ran it for years. As she moved closer to retirement, June took a job at Goodwill Industries. She retired in 2006.
After her children had grown, June enjoyed bowling in her free time. She bowled on several leagues and won several awards through the years. June loved county music and country dancing. She attended numerous concerts and got to meet some of her favorite artists. You could find her several nights a week dancing at Cowboy's night club. June loved to help everyone learn to dance. She would frequently partner with gentlemen that were at Cowboy's for dance lessons or she would convince those that were just there for a drink or two that they wanted to learn to dance. She would say, "How are you going to meet the pretty girls if you can't dance?" If there was a waltz playing you would never find her sitting. For years, she met and made many friends doing what she loved, dancing. Later, when she no longer went out to Cowboy's, she would enjoy the summer concerts at Hillside Gardens where she often ran into some of those same gentlemen that she had taught to dance. It was priceless to watch her reconnect and dance with all of them again.
June also loved the PBR and rodeo. Anytime those events were in Colorado Springs you would find her there. June enjoyed playing the slots in Cripple Creek and would faithfully play "her numbers" each week on the lottery. Watching June scratch a lottery scratcher was like watching a kid on Christmas morning; she would have the biggest smile that would only grow bigger if she won. June loved spending time with family and cherished every family gathering for birthdays, weddings or the holidays. June truly leaves behind a legacy of love and family.
June is preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Nida (Harp) Thompson; her sister Joanne Daffern; her brother Woodson Thompson (Woody); her husband, Eldon Broughton (Pudge); her daughter Linda Haefner (Broughton); her son James Broughton (Jim); and a grandson, Boe Broughton.
June is survived by her daughters, Jo Lynn Lockhart, (Gary) and Kathleen Ford; and her son, Kenneth Broughton (Karen); 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends that will miss her greatly.

In memory of a truly beautiful lady. I´ve known June since I was in the 6th grade and now at 66 I still cherish those countless memories. She always took us places and picked us up, and welcomed us with snacks after school. My favorite ginger snaps.
Her words, "I suppose if you really think it´s necessary", resonates with me today.
She was a remarkable kind-hearted woman, and will be deeply missed.
Love,
Barb

She was a gift to have as a grandma Ever so sweet, but ever so feisty at the same time.

I´ll always remember how she gave and gave of her time, her love, her encouragement, etc. She´s passed that trait on to my mom for sure, and I only pray I´ll be as generous as her one day.

Loved country dancing with her at Cowboys on family night growing up, and had a blast traveling around the East Coast with her.

You are truly missed Grandma, but I know I´ll see you again in Heaven for some line dancing or a 3-step
