Obituary of June Charline Cunningham
June Cunningham was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. June left this world on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of nearly 90 years old.
June was born in Depew, New York on September 2, 1934. She spent her early career years pursuing her love of photography. June met her husband, Edward "Ed" Cunningham in upstate New York. Together they lived and worked in many New York towns including Cheektowaga, Angola, Batavia, and Olean during their 40 years of marriage. In addition to raising their two daughters, June had active involvement in various aspects of her community, from Girl Scouts and 4H leader to volunteering at her daughters' schools and the Catholic church. She was a talented and respected Benefits Specialist for both Graham Manufacturing and Dresser Rand in upstate New York.
After retirement in 1992, June and Ed moved south to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. While living in Tennessee, June was active in the Republican Club, the Computer Club, St. Francis Catholic Church, the Fairfield Glade Community Church, the Four Seasons Townhouse Organization, and the Crossville Playhouse. After Ed's passing in 1996, June met her second husband, Claude Miles. They enjoyed life together for 15 years, including travel to visit their many daughters around the country. After Claude's passing in 2018, June moved to Buena Vida Estates in Melbourne, Florida to be closer to her family. Friends and family fondly remember June for her extreme generosity, great sense of humor, and bright smile.
Beloved survivors are her daughters Kathleen Thompson, wife of Robert Thompson of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Susan Weir, wife of Peter Weir of Cocoa Village, Florida, and grandchildren Benjamin Weir of Bozeman, Montana and Kaelan Weir of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Dianne Mildenberger and Pat Sojka, as well as nieces and nephews. Survivors also include stepdaughters Claudia Miles, Roberta Szalach, Angela (John) Sarcone, and Melissa (Leonard) Bex.
June is predeceased by her mother Julia Sojka, stepfather Joseph Sojka, father Walter Mildenberger, and brothers William Mildenberger and Joseph Sojka.
A Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at Buena Vida Estates in Melbourne, Florida on April 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fairfield Glade Community Church in Tennessee on April 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm, followed by an interment with her husband, Ed, at the St. Francis Catholic Church Columbarium in Fairfield Glade. A celebration mass is also planned this summer at Mt Irenaeus / St. Bonaventure University, in Olean, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Orlando, Florida.

June was such an amazing woman. Back in the seventies, I would visit to see her daughter but I loved sitting at the table and talking with June, often over a perfectly mixed Tanqueray & Tonic she would make for both of us. She was smart, engaging and so funny with a contagious laugh. I haven't seen her in nearly 50 years but I remember her vividly.

My sincere and deepest sympathy to Kathy, Sue and the many other people who will surely miss her.
