June Elizabeth Currier, 85, passed away on December 2, 2025 in East
Providence, Rhode Island. June was born on her parents' farm in
New Sharon, Maine on May 30, 1940, the youngest child of Linwood M. and Winnie L. (Dore) Currier. June attended schools in New Sharon and was a graduate of New Sharon High School in 1959.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings Lloyd, Delmar (Val) Currier, Kathleen (Raymond) Nadeau, Mona (Joseph) Nadeau, Linwood (Alberta) Currier, Vivian (Earl) Tracy, and A. Paul Currier; and by nephews James Currier and Darryl Nadeau. She is survived by her sister-in-law Ellen Currier and loving nieces and nephews: Althea, David, Lois, Dan, Alice, Elaine, Sam, Barry, Brenda, Blair, Brian, Barbara, Laurie, Patti and Jeffrey.
June had a sweet, gentle spirit and was loved by all who knew her. Kind to everyone she met, she had a rare gift for seeing only the good in people. June was a very talented cook and mastered the art of tending the wood cook stove for heat as well as cooking. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and working word-search and crossword puzzles.
June's nieces and nephews cherished their weekends on the family farm, where she was the heart of their adventures. With her faithful dog Duke by her side, she led long walks along Bent's Pond Road, picked wild apples and chokecherries and explored stone walls and the woods nearby. June grew up without electricity or modern conveniences, and the cousins found endless entertainment with her - listening to her 45s on a battery-operated record player (with "The Monster Mash" an all time favorite), listening to old songs on the wind-up Victrola and reading comic books by the glow of kerosene lamps. She taught them how to wax autumn leaves, she created giant leaf piles for jumping into and was genuinely interested in their conversations.
June put her own life on hold while she lovingly cared for her parents as well as for several neighborhood children. In her 40s she got her driver's license - the only one of her sisters to do so. She then relocated from Maine to Rhode Island to continue caring for family members and others in need.
She was later employed at Dunkin' Donuts and then at Stop & Shop Supermarket in Rhode Island for many years where she was recognized for her dedication, strong work ethic and top level performance.
June loved all animals and nature and often said that if she ever lived in the country again, she'd plant a large garden and happily share it with the deer and other woodland animals.
A longtime resident of Fox Point Manor in Providence, June formed many cherished friendships there, and she will be deeply missed by her neighbors and friends.
June's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to HopeHealth Hospice of Providence for their care and compassion shown to June in her home and at Evergreen House Health Center. They are grateful to June's team of doctors, nurses, CNAs, Chaplain, Social Workers and volunteers, with special thanks to her nurses Nicole and Carla.
Plans for her memorial will be made in the Spring of 2026.
