June was born in
Montgomery, Alabama, to William Marvin and Gladys Stanley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis Garrow. June is survived by her children Rod Henley (Kathy Osgood) Stan Henley (Sheri) Leah Cunningham Joyce Robinson (Randy); and her grandchildren Sunni Kimbro (Chris), Shea Henley, Sayre Henley Baker (Nick), Blake Henley (Lindsay), Katie Cunningham (Jarrod Taylor), Beth Cunningham (Bryce Clark), Daniel Robinson (Amanda) and Evan Robinson (Amber Eggers); and her great grandchildren Dalton, Mason, Brooke, Kayleigh, Alex, Addison, and Oakes.
June's love of music began early and remained a lifelong passion. Her singing career started with the 604th Air Force Band at Maxwell AFB, the Louis Watts and Johnny Long Bands in Montgomery, then with Big Bands which toured the East Coast during WW2. Music was always a part of her home, often filled with songs and musicians.
In the 1960s, June (Detective Henley) became one of the first female police officers in
Montgomery, Alabama. She began as a school crossing guard and went on to earn full-time status as a sworn officer. She was assigned as a detective in the Youth Aid Unit, where she served for the entirety of her 20-year career with the Montgomery Police Department. After retiring, she continued her commitment to helping others by working in Child Support Enforcement with the District Attorney's Office.
June met her beloved Dennis in 1981, and together they opened Garrow's Trophy Shop in Montgomery. Following the passing of her parents, they retired to The Villages, Florida. There, Dennis worked for the Schwartz and Morse families, founders of The Villages, while June remained deeply active In the community. She worked as a pool monitor, served on the Community Board, and was a devoted member of Hope Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir, welcomed others as a greeter, and helped establish the church's "My Time" Caregiver Respite Ministry.
June lived life with remarkable energy and enthusiasm. She played golf into her 80s and stayed active in numerous clubs and activities, including tap dancing, line dancing, the Jazz Lover's and More Jazz Clubs, and the Classical Music Club. She played bridge weekly, remained a member of the Villages gym into her 90s, and even participated in a dragon boat race at the age of 96. Over the years, she appeared in many dance, variety, and theatrical productions. She especially treasured her lifelong friendship of more than 60 years with Janice Frambach.
In 2022, June moved to Georgia to be closer to her family, settling in Social Circle in 2024. She became a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she attended faithfully until late 2025 and found great joy in singing hymns.
June loved life with zeal and enthusiasm. She cherished her family and friends deeply, and above all, she loved the Lord.
There will be a Celebration of Life for June held on her 100th birthday. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court,
Social Circle, GA 30025
