June Brooks King (age 88) of Mayport passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026. She was born April 17, 1937, in Folkston, Georgia, the youngest daughter of Peter Grooms Brooks and Ila Herrin Brooks.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Peter and Ila); her husband of 54 years Samuel Harold King; her daughter Judith Elaine King; and fourteen siblings: Glynn Brooks, Victor Brooks, Bill Brooks, Pauline Crews, Gene Brooks, Guy Brooks, Eldo Brooks, Woodrow Brooks, Eula Crews, Cathleen Mock, Flo Mayo, Ora Strickland, Alma Day, and Irene Hart. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as one special caregiver, her great niece Tessy King-Robbins who attended to her needs for many years.

June lived a life defined not by recognition, but by quiet service, steadfast faith, and deep love for others. She was a woman who preferred the background to the spotlight, yet her influence reached far and wide through her actions, her generosity, and her unwavering compassion. Those who truly knew June understood her to be a gentle strength, steady, kind, and deeply rooted in her Christian faith.

June retired after more than forty years as a customer service representative for Southern Bell, BellSouth, and AT&T. In 1986, thirteen years after her first shorthand course, she was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Florida at the age of 49.

A gifted and devoted quilter, June was a longtime active member of the Coastal Quilting Guild. Through her craft, she created not only beauty, but comfort, making and donating lap quilts to Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Community Hospice, Ronald McDonald House, and the City Rescue Mission. During the COVID-19 pandemic, June and her dear daughter Judy worked tirelessly to make and distribute more than 700 masks to hospitals, schools, and members of the community, well before masks were readily available.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home, 3600 Third Street South, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250 with Pastor Tom Messer officiating. Burial will follow at the Tillotson/Singleton Cemetery located at 13330 Singleton Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32225.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice for Caring at Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside.

June will be remembered not only for what she made with her hands, but for the countless lives she touched with her heart. Her legacy is one of kindness, humility, and faithful service, a life beautifully lived.
