June Berch Lyon

Sylvia June Berch Lyon passed from this earthly life to be with the Lord on February 13, 2025, in St. Dominic Hospital at the age of 87. Born to David and Merle Rutledge Berch on July 13, 1937, June was reared in the New Zion Community with her three siblings Peggy, Joe, and Gail. June married Johnnie Lee Lyon May 29, 1955, and together they reared their two children, David and Tammy. June led a full life during which she worked at Michael's 5 & 10, as a receptionist at Dr. Dabney's office, she worked in the cafeteria at Crystal Springs High School, ran June's Shoe Store, and worked as a tax accountant. June was a longtime member of the Eastern Star and loved scrapbooking. June has been a longtime member of New Zion Baptist Church, though more recently she attended Gallman Baptist Church with her daughter Tammy and son-in-law Reggie Bridges who serves as the Minister of Music. June was a warm and welcoming soul, always with a sunny, open smile, and a deep love for her family, friends, and community. June's faith in the Lord came foremost, and it was her faith which guided her and gave her strength throughout her life.
June was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Lyon, son David Lyon, daughter, Tammy Bridges, brother Joe Berch, sister Gail Walls, and grandson Jason Christopher Lyon. She is survived by her sister Peggy Della-Pietra (Ron) of Surprise, AZ, brother-in-law Johnny Walls, son-in-law Reggie Bridges of Crystal Springs, daughter-in-law Janice Lyon, and grandchildren David Erin Lyon and Benjamin Dale Bridges. Completing her surviving family are her great grandchildren and the children of her sisters and brother.
Memorials may be made to either the Gallman Baptist Church or to the New Zion Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Stringer Family Funeral Services of Crystal Springs. Services will be held Saturday February 15 as follows:
Visitation will be held at Gallman Baptist Church from 9:30am until 11:00am followed by the Memorial Service celebrating the life of Sylvia June Berch Lyon at 11:00am. Graveside service will follow at New Zion Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Carl Merchant, Jim McCardle, Edward Rutledge, Jerry Hall, Dustin Merchant, and Monroe Bates.
Honorary pallbearer is Larry McAlpin.
