June Hart McCarthy, 90, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, September 26, 2022.
June was born in Fanwood, NJ, on August 17th, 1932, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Scotch Plains - Fanwood High School in 1950 and was employed as an Office Manager and Bookkeeper with Ortalis Engineering for many years before retiring.
June met her soulmate, Robert "Bob" McCarthy, after his discharge from the US Navy, and later married in 1956. A beautiful 65-year journey together.
As active members of the Scotch Hills Golf Club, Fanwood Seniors, NJ Audubon Society, and Fanwood Jaycees, Bob and June were well known in Fanwood. As a couple, they worked together to make Fanwood a great place to live & raise a family. In 2006, they were honored and recognized during the town's annual "Fanny Wood Day" celebration, where they were named "Mr. and Mrs. Fanwood". June, Bob, and their community of friends held a monthly bridge club where they would gather, play cards, laugh, and share stories & gourmet food.
Throughout the years, June spent her time traveling with friends and family to their Manasquan and Sea Girt homes, road trips to Florida to visit 'Pop and Fran', the Outer Banks, and the annual Lion's Club Convention in the Poconos. Outside of her annual trips, June traveled to Alaska, Colorado, Ireland, Scotland, the Caribbean, and countless other adventures along the way.
June made the most of every day. As an avid gardener and birdwatcher, she spent her time outdoors tending to her plants and birdfeeders in hopes of attracting a few visitors (hopefully Wrens & Cardinals). And while she loved to fish, she would bait it, reel it in, prepare it, but never eat it herself. Luckily, Bob & her sons were always happily available for a fish dinner.
June always cared for everyone in her family, especially her aging relatives who needed help. If someone was in recovery from an illness or surgery, June would always show up with her famous macaroni casserole.
'Junie,' 'Junebug,' was a cherished Mother, Wife, Grandmother & friend to all. She will be remembered as a positive force to all who knew her; a perpetual optimist, admirably strong & kind. June was always smiling and found joy in the simple yet most important things in life- family & friendship.
June's passing leaves an immeasurable void and an everlasting imprint on the lives of all who knew and loved her.
June is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Bob McCarthy. Her parents, William E Hart and Myrtle Hinger, and her three siblings, William (Bill) Hart, Jodi Anderson, and Virginia (Ginny) Hart. June leaves behind her sons Robert McCarthy Jr., James McCarthy & his wife Michelle McCarthy, and her cherished grandchildren, Megan McCarthy & Jimmy McCarthy.
Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Sunday, October 2nd, from 2 PM to 5 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10 AM, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fanwood Rescue Squad.
