June Vermillion Schaeffer, 94
June Vermillion Schaeffer, 94 of Ashland passed from this life early Sunday morning, December 14, 2025 in University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center following a long battle with Cancer.
She was born on December 7, 1931 in Marietta, Ohio the daughter of the late Pearley and Bernice (nee Hardesty) Hinton.
June graduated from Chester High School, Class of 1950. She first married David Vermillion who preceded her in death in 1988. June later remarried, Mathias "Matt" Schaeffer who also preceded her in death in 2003.
She was a secretary for the Ashland City Schools for nine years, and later worked with Betty Ginger at the Centre of Business in Ashland. June was a devoted member of the Dickey Church of the Brethren.
June is survived by one son, Robert (LeeAnn) Rieck of Ashland; three step daughters, Connie Vermillion of Wooster, Susan Nixon of Ashland, Valerie (Keith) Hall of Jeromesville; four step sons, Tom Vermillion of Ashland, Tim (Bobbie) Shaeffer of Jeromesville, Mike Gilbert of Arkansas, and Eric (Barbi) Gilbert of Mansfield; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; step daughter-in-law, Carol Vermillion of Alaska; and one sister-in-law, Christine Hinton of Wooster.
In addition to her parents and husbands; June is preceded in death by one son, Dan Fritz who passed away in 2002; an infant daughter, Carol Ann Reich in 1957; and five brothers, Eugene, J. William, Jerry, L. Max, and Sam Hinton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Vermillion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice or to the Ashland County Cancer Association.
