June Jeter Smith of Santuck passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 102.
She was born November 17, 1923, in Santuck, a daughter of the late James Ryan Jeter, Sr., and Cornelia Caveny Jeter.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her beloved husband Wilbur Frasier Smith, Jr.
She graduated from Union High School and attended Limestone College. During World War II, she worked for the Identification Officer at the Charleston Naval Base. She also served as a substitute teacher for the Santuck Grammar School and at Carlsan Elementary, as well as on a school district federal project. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Carlisle Methodist Church from the 1950’s, serving over the years as a Sunday School teacher, communion chair, and in other capacities.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter Susan Jeter Smith White (Thomas) of Columbia; her son Wilbur Frasier Smith III (Carol) of Santuck; grandsons Ryan Smith (Abigail) of Charlotte and Martin Smith (Laura Lee) of Charleston; and by eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by seven nieces and a nephew.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Mary Beth Brown and a brother J. Ryan Jeter, Jr.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation for the love and support of her devoted caregivers Doris Thompson, Dale Davis, and Gracie Root; her compassionate Spartanburg Regional Hospice team; Dr. Jeff Craft; and her special friends, cousins, and church family.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Chad Ponder at the Jeter Family Chapel in Santuck (1 Jeter Cemetery Loop, Union, SC, off Highway 215) at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 1, 2025. The family will be at the home of Wilbur Smith III.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Dudley Adams, Billy Bean, Les Brown, Evans Crocker, Thomas Gelwicks, Malcolm Gregory, Bob Jeter, Barry Smith and Whitney Smith.
Memorials may be made to Carlisle Christian Church (P.O. Box 35, Carlisle, SC 29031) or to the June and Wilbur Smith Scholarship at the University of South Carolina at Union (P.O. Drawer 729, Union, SC 29379).
