June F. Summers

June F. Summers, age 90, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 29, 2025. (Appropriately the holy day of Ascension Thursday in the Catholic faith). She was born June 30, 1934, in Detroit, the daughter of the late Francis (Lyday) and William Wirth. She grew up in the Delray neighborhood in southwest Detroit, MI. June attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge for a year before transferring to Southwestern High School in Detroit. June's early job was at Kaiser Motors where she worked for a year mostly handling airplane blueprints. In 1953, she went to work for J. Walter Thompson, a prominent global advertising agency in Detroit. As secretary to the director, June moved within engineering circles handling technical and confidential data. She was described by her employer as 'having lively efficiency and adding feminine glamour' where a female presence was uncommon. June married the love of her life, Donald Joseph Summers, on October 25, 1958. They were married for 63 years. In 1960, they moved into their first and only home in Farmington where they raised a family of three. June was very dedicated to her Catholic faith – she was actively involved in her church and volunteered time as a Eucharistic Minister, various church and school events and charities – such as The Christ Child Society and the Solanus Casey Center . Always welcoming anyone with open arms, friendly chatter and genuine interest, June was a living example of her Christian values. June was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald. She is the loving mother of Donna (Michael) Jones, Steve (Renee) Summers, and Nancy Summers; dear grandmother of Andrew Jones, Michelle (David) Curosh, Stephanie (Brent) Pierce, Nicole Summers and Gregory Summers and cherished great grandmother of Eliana Pierce and Beau Pierce; fond sister of Rose Marie. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 2, 2025, 11:00am (gathering at 10:30am) at St. Gerald Catholic Church, 21300 Farmington Rd., Farmington. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial tributes are suggested to The Solanus Casey Center in Detroit or St. Geralds Catholic Church in Farmington.
