Junior E. "June Bug" Croston, age 87, a resident of
Philippi, WV., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in Mansfield Place with his family by his side. He had been declining in health for quite some time. June Bug was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, Pap, cherished friend, and vibrant spirit who touched the lives of all that knew him. He was born on February 23, 1938, in Galloway WV., a son to the late Homer Mayle, and Bertha (Croston) Whitehair. In March of 1991, he joined hands to his best friend in marriage to the former Bessie Newman who survives at their home. They done everything together, you never saw one without the other. June Bug leaves behind his step children whom he thought of as his own children; James Newman, and Crystal Mayle, and husband Matthew, grandchildren: Tayvia Mayle, Keagan Newman, and Rylynn Newman; siblings; Charles "Cup" Croston, Paul Croston, Bobby Croston, Juanita "Eve" Mayle, Nora "Tootsie" Mayle, Linda "Lindy" Kennedy, sister-in-law; Mae Kennedy, several nieces, nephews, and friends in the community. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Freddie Croston, Thomas "Joe" Croston, Williard Whitehair, Brenda Mayle, Norita Queen, and Betty Stolis. Mr. Croston was Christian of faith, he attended the schools of Barbour County, he drove a Coal Truck for Benson Trucking for several years, he loved being outdoors, mowing grass, hunting for ground hogs, squirrels, and deer, fishing, and he and his brother Cup would do a little mechanical work he mostly worked on their own cars. He loved to watch westerns on T.V., he loved spending time with his grandchildren. The family wants to thank Mansfield Place for their caring for June Bug. Throughout his years, Junior was known for his warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering spirit. He was a man of strong principles and quiet resilience, carrying himself with grace and dignity in every situation. His generosity and compassion for others were hallmarks of his character, reflecting the deep love he held for his family and friends. Friends may gather at the Kittle Family Funeral Home 265 Beech Ave., Philippi on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 6 pm until 8 pm and again on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 8 am until 11 am, A funeral service will be held a 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Ezik S. Norris officiating and interment will follow in the Tim Mayle Cemetery near
