Junius "Dick" Mulvey Obituary

Junius Richard “Dick” Mulvey, 75, of Muskegon, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at his home. Dick was born on March 2, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Junius and Mary (Bridges) Mulvey Sr.

A proud alumnus of Culver Military Academy and Wayland Academy, Dick exemplified dedication and service early in life by enlisting in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era, where he served from 1968 to 1972. After completing his military service, he transitioned into the workforce as an independent salesman, successfully selling sporting goods and later, fine jewelry. He could sell ice to an Eskimo!

Dick was known for his keen eye for a good deal, often delighting in treasure hunting at Goodwill and estate sales. This led to a very successful eBay business. His interests extended beyond finding the “perfect bowser.” He had a deep appreciation for all genres of music, but jazz was his favorite. He was often found in the garage, music playing in the background with a beer in hand, savoring a little time to unwind. Sunny days found him on his motorcycle, taking to the curvy backroads he loved, the wind always in his face. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending quality time with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren. Arianna – his oldest with her calm demeanor and love of reading; Logan – the first one he taught to fish and matched Grandpa’s energy; Ira – his shadow who absorbed everything Grandpa said and challenged his intellect on a regular basis; Eli – his youngest with an eager smile and determined attitude. He was never happier than when his family was around. He was the Grandpa who made sure bikes were in good condition, fishing poles and worms were available, breakfast potatoes were on the griddle, chocolate milk was in the refrigerator and snacks were readily available. Memories made during spontaneous trips with his son, Chris, remain cherished highlights of his life. Chris was the part of his life he was proudest of — the accomplishment that meant more to him than anything else. Dai was more like a daughter, and she blessed him with his four grandchildren. Dick and Susan created a welcoming home, where holidays were celebrated, good meals were abundant and everyone was welcome.

On October 1, 1988, Dick married Susan Marie Bednarczyk, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, Chris (Dai) Mulvey, and four grandchildren, Ari, Logan, Ira, and Eli. Dick's legacy further extends through his three sisters, Julie Jacobs, Trish (Leon) Garner, and Mary Leakey, along with several nieces and nephews. A special shoutout to Steven Bednarczyk and Mark Bednarczyk, the brothers he never had; special friends Ed and Kelly Gauthier; Mike and Jean Weatherly; and Mark Hainer, his lifelong friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Suzanne Hower.

A celebration of life open house will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, located at 413 S Mears Ave, Whitehall, MI 49461.
