Juyne Lillian Moffitt Johnson, 94, wife of the late Charles Brooks Johnson, Sr.,
of Walhalla, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at her home.
A native of Rogers, AK, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late James Miller Moffitt and Mary Elizabeth Wickham Moffitt. Juyne graduated with a BA in sociology/psychology and teaching credentials from Furman University. She later received a Masters Degree in Administration/Supervision from Clemson University. She began her teaching career by starting a kindergarten program in 1950 in Simpsonville and teaching an adult program for veterans. She taught in Greenville in 1955 and in 1956 began teaching fourth grade at Pine Street Elementary in Walhalla, moved to first grade and then became librarian and media specialist at Walhalla Elementary School. Her passion was helping her students develop a love of reading and learning. She also was an avid traveler and planned trips for her family, feeling that travel was another form of education Her hobbies were growing flowers and vegetables, knitting, and playing bridge. Sailing across the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Elizabeth 2, she won the singles and doubles bridge tournament.
Juyne was an active member of First Baptist Church of Walhalla where she participated in interactive classes.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son: Charles B. Johnson, Jr (Trent Jarvis); daughter: Carol Brandt (Larry); brother: James Miller Moffitt, Jr. (Elizabeth); grandchildren: Charles Brooks Johnson, III (Ashley), Francis Lillian Johnson Jones (Nick), Lawrence Floyd Jones, Jr. (Kathryn) and Lillian Elizabeth Jones McCarrick (Jack); great-grandchildren: Cora Juyne Johnson, Lawrence Floyd Jones, III "Tripp" and Martin Quinn Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Davenport Funeral Home with burial to follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Davenport Funeral Home.
The wonderful Hands of Mercy staff of nurses, and others made it possible to keep our mother at home and in good health. We could not have managed without them and some other helpers for support and comfort. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hands of Mercy Hospice, 12019 N. Radio Station Road, Suite 101C, Seneca SC 29678. or P.O. Box 8427, Seneca, SC 29679.
The family is at their respective homes.
