Jyotsna I. Thaker

Jyotsna Thaker passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026. She leaves behind her devoted husband, four children, and eight beloved grandchildren.
Jyotsna's life was centered on her deep commitment to family and her meaningful work as an educator. After immigrating to the United States in 1972 to join her husband, she pursued her goals with determination-taking classes, working full time, and caring for her family all at once.
Though small in stature at five feet tall, Jyotsna was strong-willed, feisty, and made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was fiercely independent, thoughtful in her decisions, and always took the time to educate herself about her choices.
Jyotsna expressed her love through cooking and spending quality time with those she cherished. She believed deeply in empowering others, especially those in less fortunate circumstances-whether they were her students, friends, or members of the wider community.
Resilient and persevering, Jyotsna faced life's challenges with strength, honesty, and heart. She will be remembered as outspoken yet deeply caring, and her legacy of love, perseverance, and service will live on through all who knew her.
A Pooja for Jyotsna will be held at DuPage Funeral Chapel (951 W. Washington Street, West Chicago) on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 9:30 AM-12 PM.
