Kai Johnson

Kai Rowan Johnson, age 23 days, passed away in his parent's arms at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 28th, 2025. After suffering from the effects of a vein of galen malformation, he passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus.
Kai was born the spitting image of his father on December 5th, 2025 in Newburgh, Indiana to Christian and Sydney Johnson, of Evansville, Indiana. He was the answer to years of prayer and loved beyond measure by so many who anticipated his birth. In his brief time on earth, he loved listening to his parents read him stories and to audiobooks with his papa. He was ticklish on his feet and loved giving his parents and nurses the side eye when messed with, especially during bath time. Kai loved cuddling with both of his parents and was always completely at peace when he did. He also loved being pestered by his grandmothers, who were often close by throughout his hospital stay. He met so many friends and family who loved him in the days leading up to his passing and enjoyed every visit - even if he slept through some of them. He was such a special and precious boy, and the void in his parent's life will never be filled without him.
He was preceded in death by his supposed-to-be companion, Frankie, who we know he is now chasing down heaven's streets. He was greeted by many great-grandparents, as well, who we are reassured are taking great care of him until the rest of his loved ones reunite with him someday.
He is survived by his loving and heartbroken parents, Sydney and Christian; along with grandparents, Cherrie Crawford, Carl Calvin, Christopher Johnson, Carol Irick, and David Irick; uncles, Quincy Irick and Zachary Irick; great-grandmother, Linda Settlemire; and many cousins, friends, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN 47620 with Pastor Jeff Ruggles officiating and burial to follow in St. Matthew Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
Sydney and Christian would also like to extend thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Simon Family Tower NICU at Riley Children's Hospital, with a special thank you to Dr. Jayme Allen and nurses Autumn, Elizabeth, Jordan, and Emily for taking such good care of their boy and making this painful, yet beautiful journey as memorable as they possibly could.
