Kaitlyn Ann Benner Campbell, 27, passed away on December 4, 2022, after a tragic automobile accident. She is joined in heaven with her unborn baby, who passed with her as a result of the crash.
Kaitlyn "Kaity" was born on March 18, 1995, to Vicki and Craig Benner in Elgin, Illinois. She grew up in Crystal Lake, IL, and moved to Fredericksburg, VA, during elementary school for a few years before moving to Bel Air, MD, where she graduated from North Harford High School in 2013. She went on to study Psychology and Communications, achieving her Associates Degree from Harford Community College in 2017. She had many interests and also studied nursing, animals, ASL and more. Kaitlyn relocated to Tallahassee in 2018 to live close to family.
Kaitlyn loved animals, especially horses. She owned and operated her own farrier business, trimming and balancing horses' hooves. She owned three horses, including a rescue horse, competed in dressage equestrian events, and immersed herself in the love of farm life. Kaity lived on a farm in Havana, FL, with her husband, two children, dogs, bunnies, a cat, and horses.
In 2016, Kaitlyn met Nicholas Campbell. They married in Higgins Lake, MI, where Kaitlyn's family has homesteaded a farm property for seven generations. They gave birth to their sweet Emmit (3) in 2019, followed by a curly blonde Elliot (2) in 2020. They recently found out they were expecting their third child, who also passed away with Kaity in the accident. The Campbell Family loves animals and family.
Though Kaitlyn worked with horses, she embraced many passions. She learned and loved sign language and would sign songs for a friend at concerts. Kaitlyn loved dogs and training them to be fun-loving family companions. Kaitlyn is preceded in death by her beloved Abby, a dog she received as a bribery gift when she was 5 years old to encourage her to stop sucking her thumb. Her love of horses was ignited during a family vacation to the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, where the family traversed caravan style up a mountain on horseback; she was 8 years old. Mucking stalls, feeding horses, grooming and caring, Katie earned a horse of her own, Hallelujah "Ollie" when she was 15 years old.
Kaity shared a beautiful gift of brightening up any mood by making people laugh. Her favorite color was purple. She loved flowers, especially daisies and roses. She had a vibrant smile that always seemed contagious.
Kaitlyn was preceded in death by her grandmother Elaine Ann Koeller, and grandfather, James Edwin Benner. She is survived by her husband Nicholas Campbell, sons Emmit Campbell and Elliot Campbell, parents Vicki and Craig Benner, sisters Brittany Perez and Mallory Smith, brothers Andrew Benner, Chris Benner and Nathan Benner, sisters-in-law Catelyn Benner and Carley Peregory, and brother-in-law Kent Perez. She has 13 nieces and nephews, whom she was a Godparent to one.
Flowers may be sent to Bevis Funeral Home at 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Donations to assist the family are welcome, as Kaitlyn was the primary bread winner.
There will be a visitation 6 - 8pm on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Bevis Funeral Home. There will also be a Memorial Mass, followed by a reception, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 4665 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL, at 11am on Friday, December 16, 2022.
If you would like to help keep Kaitlyn's memory alive for her children, please consider writing a letter sharing a memory or something you loved about Kaitlyn, as well as a photo. The family would like to compile photos, drawings and letters into a book for Emmit and Elliot so they can learn about their amazing mom.
