Kara Jane Coates

Kara (Calamity) Jane Coates was born June 27, 1964 in Omaha, Nebraska to Edward Thelston Kocher, and Donna Jane (Brown)Kocher and passed away on June 25, 2022. She lived with her parents and brother Kenneth (Russ) Russel Kocher in Leawood, KS. She graduated from Concordia High School after the family returned home to operate the family farm. After high-school, Kara attended Kansas State University and had a son Damien (Paul) Kocher, then eight years later had another son Cody (Wayne) Kaker. Kara's professional career started in real estate and eventually landed in finance. She was an entrepreneur and excelled at everything she tried. For her last 14 years, she worked for NutrienAg in the corporate accounting department.
Kara was a fighter! She never met a goal she couldn't achieve. She was a three-time cancer survivor. At 29 years old, Kara was first diagnosed with breast cancer, and most recently had been fighting stage 4 metastatic breast cancer since 2016. Kara loved having fun, made countless lifelong friends, and went on her share of adventures.
She also loved her family fiercely. Her two grandsons, Colt Baker and Finn Kocher brought her much joy and happiness. She loved showing them off whenever the opportunity arose. Over the last few years, Kara spent the majority of her time with her boyfriend Doug Morey. Doug and Kara traveled a lot; from travels to Yellowstone, to cruises in the Caribbean, and one last hurrah road trip to Niagara Falls. Kara loved her animals and always had a companion. Baxter, her newest furball, brought her a lot of comfort and joy. She had multiple cats, dogs, and horses and loved them all regardless of their fur.
Kara is survived by her parents Donna Jane Kocher of Atwood, KS, and Edward Thelseston Kocher; and by her sons (and married in daughters) Damien Paul Kocher and Jade Kocher of Atwood, KS, and Cody Wayne Kaker and Emily Kaker of Platteville, CO. Edward and Donna Kocher of Atwood, KS; her sons and family, Damien and Jade Kocher, and grandson Finn Kocher of Atwood, KS; and Cody and Emily Kaker, and grandson Colt Kaker of Platteville, CO.
She was preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Russel Kocher, and her grandparents' Russ and Gayle Brown; and Kenneth and Adaleen Kocher.
