Karen Lynn Benkusky, a vibrant soul who always had an adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023, in Cheyenne, WY. She was born on May 27, 1958, in the charming town of Deadwood, South Dakota.

From a young age, Karen had an insatiable wanderlust. Traveling to different places brought her immense joy and excitement. She and her beloved mother embarked on numerous memorable trips together, but their favorite destination was undoubtedly England. The enchanting landscapes and rich history of the country fascinated Karen and left her with unforgettable memories.

During her high school years, Karen immersed herself in various activities that showcased her talents. She was actively involved with the drama club where she let her creative spirit shine on stage. Her presence could captivate any audience as she breathed life into diverse characters. Moreover, Karen fearlessly embraced extemporaneous speaking competitions that allowed her to express herself eloquently.

Karen possessed a deep affection for animals and never tired of listening to stories about them. One pet close to her heart was Duchess, her brother Paul's  Pot Belly pig. Karen cherished every tale shared about Duchess' mischievous antics and brought endless laughter to those around her. The presence of other pets and chickens also enchanted Karen as she reveled in the tales of their escapades.

Music resonated with Karen's soul and provided solace during both jubilant and challenging times in her life. Old movies held a profound allure for her, transporting her back to bygone eras filled with glamour and timeless storytelling. Among all the cinematic treasures she adored, the Downton Abbey series held a special place in her heart.

One of Karen's proudest accomplishments was her involvement with the local Cheyenne AA club. She remained committed to maintaining sobriety, inspiring others through her journey of personal growth and resilience. Her unwavering strength and dedication to her recovery served as a beacon of hope for many.

Faith played an integral role in Karen's life, and she was an ardent member of the United Methodist Church. Through her religious community, she found solace, support, and a sense of belonging. Karen's deep faith nurtured her spirit and provided comfort during moments of reflection.

Karen was deeply loved by her family and friends. She is survived by her loving son James, who will carry on her legacy with pride. Additionally, she leaves behind her brothers Paul and David Somers, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and a vast network of cherished friends. Each one holds dear memories of Karen in their hearts—memories that will forever bring warmth and laughter when recalled.

In celebrating Karen Lynn Benkusky's extraordinary life, let us remember her free-spirited nature, unwavering dedication to sobriety, love for travel, passion for the arts, deep faith in God, and the everlasting mark she left on all those fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
