Karen Louise Berkshire, age 92, of Strasburg passed away peacefully in her home Saturday October 4, 2025.
She was born on November 29, 1932 in Minerva Ohio and was the daughter of the late Byron Krumlauf and Mildred Pedlar Zimmerman. She graduated from Minerva High School and had been employed at the JC Baxter Company there.
Karen moved to New Philadelphia in 1965 and began working at the Timken Company. She retired September 28, 1995 after working there for 30 years. After her retirement she attended Kent State Tuscarawas where she received her associate and bachelor’s degrees. While attending Kent, Karen was employed in their library for 4 years.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading books and traveling. Her special hobbies were her participation in the Carroll County Genealogy Society and volunteering at the local Salvation Army. Known for her bright smile and generous spirit, Karen cherished her time spent with friends. The memories made during their countless lunch dates and book club meetings will be treasured by all.
She was married to Paul H. Berkshire September 2, 1967. Paul passed away on August 2, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her son, Keith McIntosh and her daughter, Tammy McIntosh Blackledge. In addition, she was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, James and Letha Pedlar, her parents and a great-granddaughter, Breanna Alberts.
She is survived by her son, John Hooks (Lynn) of Summerville, South Carolina; a grandson, Jodi Hooks (Kelly) of Hartville, Ohio; two granddaughters, Amy Hooks Sommers (Carl) of Bolivar, Ohio and Leah Blackledge Stafford (Will) of Knoxville, Tennessee; 6 great-grandchildren, Jamie, Amber, Slayde, Zayne, Elliott, and Holland; her great-great-grandson, Jackson; and her beloved cat, Opal. She also leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Friday, October 10, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. A service will begin at 11 am followed by burial at Dover Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Karen’s memory may be made to the Carroll County Genealogy Society or the local Salvation Army Chapter in Dover-New Philadelphia c/o, The Salvation Army of Northeast Ohio, 2507 East 22nd Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44115.
