Karen Smith Butler soul was released from its earthly home on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 62. She was a native of New Roads, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Karen was a graduate of Rosenwald High School in New Roads, LA. She worked in several different industries over the years, which included hospitality, security, and daycare, just to name a few. Loving daughter of Eardean “Deany” Matirne-McKeel and the late David “Crockett” Smith. Granddaughter of the late Henrietta Smith, John Matirne, Ennis and Mary Sullivan. Sister of John Brent (Robin) Wilson of Edgard, LA, Michael Goins of Angola, LA, Pastor Theron (Melissa) Smith, Sr. of New Roads, LA, Sharon Smith, and Andrea Lynette Simmons. Niece of Johnnie (Loretta) Green, and Lola Green of Lottie, LA, and the late James Croom, Ivan O’Brien Green, Lawrence, Leon, James, and Yvonne. Great aunt of JaRon “Isiah” Barnes, and Prince Patrick Haywood. Special friend of Mary Bazile Hebert, Carol Sneed, Cecila Green, Penny Overton, Beverly Samuels, Vanessa Clark, and Sharon Hines. Karen is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Loving Faith Baptist Church, St. Peter Baptist Church, Life Center Baptist Church, and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Loving Faith Baptist Church, 45 5th St., Gretna, LA on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:30a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the above-named church.
