Karen Delp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Babcock Funeral Home Inc on Dec. 9, 2025.
Karen Delp, 80, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025.
Born on October 6, 1945, in Catskill, New York, Karen grew up in Coeymans Hollow and graduated from Ravena-Coeymans High School before attending SUNY Plattsburgh. She went on to build a distinguished career with the United States Department of State, a calling that led her to a life rich in service, discovery, and international experience. Though Washington, D.C., remained her home for most of her adult life, her work and spirit carried her far beyond its borders, with residencies in London, Berlin, and Tel Aviv.
A consummate traveler, Karen embraced the world with curiosity and unmistakable style. Her early explorations through Europe in her beloved Volkswagen squareback evolved into a lifetime of global adventures. She journeyed through Norway, Egypt, South Africa, China, Cambodia, and Afghanistan, sailed aboard the QE2, and crisscrossed the United States-collecting stories, friendships, and memories in every corner of the globe.
Karen's passions extended well beyond travel. She was a voracious reader, a discerning enthusiast of fine Scotch, and an exceptional cook whose meals were treasured by family and friends. She had also been an avid bridge player and a true coffee connoisseur, known for her sharp mind at the card table and her unwavering devotion to the perfect cup. After retiring from federal service, she devoted her time to giving back, serving as a dedicated volunteer and children's advocate with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Children of D.C., while also supporting numerous charitable organizations.
Karen is survived by her brother, Thomas Delp of Delmar; her nieces, Diana Delp (Brent Hotaling) of Delmar and Robin Simon (Mark) of Moreno Valley, California; her great-nieces, Lindsey Hotaling and Jessica Guerrero (Jayson); and her great-nephew, David German (Alicia). She is preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Delp, and her nephew, David Delp.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a favorite charity in Karen's name.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Avenue, Ravena, NY 12143. A private memorial will be held next summer.
