Karen Kay (Denning) Hayes, 76, of Erie, passed away in her home on Thursday, December 28, 2023, surrounded by family.
She was born in Erie on April 14, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert and Mary (DiNicola) Denning.
Karen graduated from Strong Vincent High School. She co-owned Hayes Wallpaper and Painting, where she enjoyed working with her husband for many years. Karen was an avid reader, shopper, and enjoyed cooking. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by her siblings, Peggy Sipple and Joyce McClanahan (Jim).
She is survived by her loving husband, Rene Hayes, children, Erin Himes, Michael Hayes (Barbara), and Maribeth Louie (Jason), grandchildren, Brayden (Joy), Patrick, and Ryan Hayes, Emma, Sam, and Jack Louie, Amanda, Miranda Serene, Lillian, and Sophia Hayes, a great-grandson, Spencer, her sister, Joanne Harbaugh (Dick), and sister-in-laws, Eileen Balczun and Patti Hayes. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 3rd at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16502 from 3 pm until 7 pm and are invited to the prayer service at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 amfollowed by the Funeral Mass at 10 am at St.George Church. Burial will be private. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UPMC Family Hospice 1700 Peach St. Suite 244 Erie, PA 16501 or Second Harvest Food Bank 1507 Grimm Dr. Erie, PA 16501.
The family would like to say a special thank you to UPMC Family Hospice especially Danielle, Stacy, Melanie, James, Katie, Pam, and Bonnie for all the kindness shown to Karen and her family.

Rene and family. Karen will be missed by many. She always was such a caring, loving person who made a difference to many. May God give you strength to handle the pain of your loss and May she RIP.
