Karen Rose “Kay” Kirkpatrick, age 85, of Abingdon, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2025. Born in Meadow Bridge, West Virginia, she was the youngest of six children and the beloved daughter of the late John and Charity Lemon.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Kirkpatrick; her son, Greg Kirkpatrick; and all five of her siblings. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, cherished by her children: Denise Davidson, Lynn Orfield, and Bryan Kirkpatrick (Ginger); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
A woman of unwavering faith, Kay was a longtime member of Gospel Tabernacle Church in Abingdon, where she found joy, fellowship, and spiritual strength. In her later years, she resided at American House Assisted Living in Bristol, Tennessee, where she was cared for with compassion and dignity.
In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service will be held at KnollKreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, Virginia, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend David Robbins officiating. Special music will be provided by Rickey Brown and Rick Wyatt.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of American House Assisted Living and to Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.
To honor Kay’s life and legacy, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Gentiva Hospice, 2004 American Way, Suite 101, Kingsport, TN 37660.
