Karen Kay Koehler, 59, of Cataract, WI, passed away October 16, 2025, marking exactly five years since the loss of her son, Ethan, a day now holding both sorrow and a sense of reunion for the family.
Karen was born in Sparta, WI, on August 27, 1966, to Jim and Vicky (Reed) Wieman. She graduated from Sparta High School, where she met the love of her life, Frank Koehler - a fun-loving guy with a twinkle in his eye who couldn't resist the spirited Wieman girl from Sparta.
Karen was a hard worker, not just in her professional endeavors but in every aspect of her life. Her creativity was one of her most notable traits. She had a unique ability to see beauty in the mundane, transforming the old farmhouse into a home that she loved. Her talent for turning "trash into treasures" was admired by all. Karen took immense pride in her lawn and flower gardens. Her love for cats was equally profound; she was a true cat wrangler, providing love and care to many feline friends throughout her life.
Despite facing hardships, Karen's strength and spirit never wavered. She faced each challenge with a feisty determination that inspired those around her. Her reddish hair was not just a physical attribute but a symbol of her fiery passion for life, a quality that her beloved Frank adored.
Karen is survived by her partner in crime, Frank; daughter, Amanda (Mike) Goede; son Joshua Koehler; her parents, Jim and Vicky Wieman; grandchildren, Logan, Wyatt, Mason, and Raven; sisters, Tammy (Jim) Buckhannon, Lisa (Donald) Short, and Marian (Wayne) Zillmer; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her son Ethan Koehler.
Memorial Services for Karen will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2025, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Melrose Alliance Church, 400 Washington St., Melrose, WI. Reverend Patrick Koehler will officiate. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the St. Columbekill Cemetery in Shamrock, WI.
The Torkelson Funeral Home of Sparta, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
