Obituary for Karen Elizabeth (Luther) Marek
Karen Elizabeth Marek, a dedicated and passionate advocate for animals, unexpectedly passed away on April 24, 2025, at the age of 56. Born on February 27, 1969, in Palo Alto, California, Karen grew up in a military family, which led her to move frequently throughout her childhood.
Karen's adventurous spirit and free-spirited heart led her to travel the world and attend countless rock concerts throughout her life. She was also an accomplished equestrian, competing in a variety of English riding events for many years and developing a deep love for horses.
For over 30 years, Karen worked as a veterinary technician, dedicating her career to caring for animals at the Marek Veterinary Clinic in Sealy, Texas. She worked alongside Dr. Dennis Marek, and after his retirement, they married and opened a small concierge veterinary clinic at their property in New Ulm, Texas. There, they provided exceptional, personalized care to their clients, many of whom became close friends.
Karen's commitment to the welfare of cats, dogs, horses, and all animals was unparalleled. Her compassion and kindness extended to every creature in need. She had an incredible gift for connecting with others, and her pure heart and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone she met.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Marek; her cherished dogs, cats, and horses; her dear siblings, Cindy Davey and Doug Davey, Scott Blunt, Skip Blunt, and Scott Root; her parents, Ann and Jim Blunt, and Mike and Paddy Root; her stepchildren, Marissa Stevens and Meredith Gagne; her step-grandchildren, Damien Gagne, Mila Stevens, Dominic Gagne, and Lucas Stevens; as well as numerous friends and extended family who will deeply miss her.
Karen's legacy of compassion and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to PUPS (Prevent Unwanted Pets) at pupsofcatspring.com / (979)732-5591 or the animal advocacy group of your choice.
