Karen Almstead Meade of Warrington, Pennsylvania passed away at her home on May 20th, 2024 with her husband and children by her side. Born in 1943 in Mineola, New York, Karen was the devoted wife of Robert Meade. She was the daughter of the late Francis Edgar Almstead and Doris Meta Mattfeld, and sister to John Almstead and Karl Almstead.
Karen was a graduate of Dickinson College where she earned a B.S. in Mathematics and was a member and president of the Chi Omega Sorority, as well as the honorary leadership society, Wheel and Chain. She started a long career working for IBM in 1965, putting her at the forefront of the IT industry. Later on, she was a Managing Consultant building complex data warehouses and earned her Master's degree in Information Science from Pennsylvania State University in 2008.
She was a devoted mother who was involved in a wide range of organizations in support of individuals and the community including the Girl Scouts and Special Olympics. She became a member of Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church in 1965 and served as an Ruling Elder.
She was married to the love of her life, Robert, for 58 years, and together they created a beautiful family. She was a devoted mother to her sons Christopher Meade (Pamela), and Jonathan Meade (Melissa), and her daughters Catherine Meade, and Jennifer Meade Eisenberg (Jon). In addition, Karen was an adored grandmother to Erika, Zeke, Sean, Luke, and Lily.
Karen's kindness, loving nature, and strength were an inspiration to all. She was also a pragmatic, truth-teller who could cut right to her point in just a few words. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed jokes and pranks. Despite her children's many activities, Karen insisted on a sit-down dinner, which she enjoyed making for her family. She had a love of the outdoors, equally at home on the beaches of Cape Cod and the Adirondack mountains of upstate New York. Karen had many hobbies including, knitting, quilting, playing bridge, watching the Phillies, and kayaking.
A celebration of Karen's life will be held on May 30th, 2024, at Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church, 1401 Meetinghouse Road, Warminster PA 18974. The family will start receiving guests at 10 am. Service will begin at 11 am followed by a luncheon reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Karen's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and friends who supported her for the past few years. They are comforted knowing she is at peace and that her spirit of generosity, sense of humor, and loyal love remain a steady beacon. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
