Karen M. Meicht

With deepest regret we announce the passing of Karen M. Meicht. Karen passed away on July 15, 2024, at the age of 70. She is the third out of seven children born to the late Francis and Evelyn (Young) Lubera. Karen was a lifelong resident of Catskill NY. After high school she attended Columbia Memorial Hospitals nursing program and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Karen had the pleasure of working at the Catskill Hospital in Jefferson Heights and then at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. However, she found her niche at Hudson Correctional Facility where she remained until she retired. After only a brief retirement she gained employment at what she referred to as her dream job. She taught the Certified Nursing Assistant program for Kaaterskill Care in Jefferson Heights until she retired for her final time.
Karen was a long-standing, devoted member of the Catskill Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. # 1341 serving faithfully wherever needed. Both Karen and her husband Bruce enjoyed their time together at the lodge.
She enjoyed collecting various themed memorabilia, such as unicorns, lighthouses and almost anything cat related. She and Bruce loved NASCAR and the Yankees. She also never turned away a real cat in need of a fur ever home. Her favorite activities were sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds and attending back yard barbecues.
Karen is survived by her son Steven, siblings John (Brenda), Irish twin Mark, Anita (Bill), Paul, Dale (Sandra), Glen (Ann-Marie), sister-in-law Gretchen Keeler, brother-in-law Peter (Audry) Meicht, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, her three fur babies, Smokey, Tex and Bandit and best friends Lynn and Paul Urban.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Bruce, Linda Lubera and Catherine Lubera.
Services will be held at Richards Funeral Home of the Mid-Hudson Valley, Inc., 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y., 12413, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon, with services at 11:45 A.M. with Fr. Jay Atherton officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot of the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Catskill, N.Y.
