Karen K. Nelson, 68, of Spencer peacefully passed away April 29, 2024, at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
A talented artist and graphic designer, Karen received her degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She went on to have a long career as a graphics specialist and project coordinator at Forest Product Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin. She retired in 2021 and returned to her hometown of Spencer.
Karen will be remembered for her humble nature and her slightly off-kilter sense of humor and love of practical jokes. She loved gardening, dogs of every size and personality, especially her beloved Wheaton Terrier Bowzer and King Charles Spaniel Winston – and she was absolutely devoted to her beloved Wisconsin Badgers.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Wanda Nelson of Spencer, and is survived by sisters Carrie Nelson (Rick Stoppelmoor) of Spencer; Amy Schlueter (Jim) of Wahpeton; and Abbie Tesch (Mike) of Spencer, as well as brother Tom Nelson (Kate) of Spencer. She is also survived by nine nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
