Karen Schoenthaler Obituary

Karen L. Schoenthaler, 87, of Venice, FL, died peacefully on February 25, 2026.

Born in Maquoketa, Iowa, Karen later resided in Bettendorf, Iowa, before moving to Venice in 2006 with her husband, David, following his retirement. During her years in Iowa, she enjoyed a varied and active career as a piano teacher, church organist, office manager, and realtor.

A lifelong lover of music, Karen began playing the piano at just five years old. She later took up the cello, sharing her talent with the North Port Symphony, the Sarasota Pops, and a dedicated ensemble of friends on Wednesday afternoons. Beyond her musical gifts, she was a talented oil portrait artist. In her later years, she developed a passion for dressing antique dolls and was an active member of the Venice Doll Club.

Karen and David shared a joyful, fun-filled marriage of 44 years. Together, they were members of Venice Presbyterian Church, where Karen served faithfully in the Stephen Ministry.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband, David; her children from a prior marriage: Carmen (Tom) Domek, Cynthia Sagers, Charles (Stephanie) Sagers, and Christopher Sagers (Annie Wu); and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Sagers.

A memorial service will be held at Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto, Venice, FL, on May 22 at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.

David, our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Karen was amazing with all her talents but I especially loved looking at her porcelain dolls she made. She was a true artist in many ways.
