Karen Gae Sparks, 69, of Alpena, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away May 21, 2024.
Born on January 11, 1955, in Alma, MI. The daughter of the late Arthur and Darlene (Corder) Brooks, Karen grew up surrounded by a close-knit family who cherished her presence. She was a beloved sister to Lonnie (Lorie) Brooks, Bryon Brooks, Connie (David) Kern, and Linda (Kevin) Bess. Her role as an aunt was one she held dear, leaving behind memories to be treasured by her nieces, nephews, and their children.
Karen's journey led her to cross paths with Jerry Sparks, a driver for KW Express, where she worked as a dispatcher. With a voice that directed more than just truck routes, she captured his heart, and the couple married on November 30, 2002, marking the beginning of a loving partnership. Their mutual respect and adoration were evident to all, as they built a life filled with shared passions and adventures.
Professionally, Karen was known for her strong work ethic and leadership skills. She took great pride in her role as a supervisor for a cleaning team with NEMROC, where her guidance and support were invaluable to her team. She was known for her for her patience, kindness, and ability to inspire those around her.
Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an accomplished quilter, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her careful attention to detail and her love for her craft. Karen also enjoyed the excitement of trips to the casino, where her laughter was a familiar and welcome sound. Traveling was one of her passions, and she cherished the moments spent riding on the motorcycle with Jerry, exploring new horizons together.
An exceptional cook, Karen's kitchen was the heart of her home, where family and friends gathered to enjoy her delicious meals. Her culinary talents were matched only by her generous spirit, as she welcomed everyone with open arms and a table full of love.
Karen's laughter was infectious, a joyful melody that could be heard for miles and never failed to lift the spirits of those around her. Her patience was a comforting presence, a testament to her deep understanding and empathy. Above all, Karen was a loving person with a big heart, embodying the very essence of kindness in every interaction. She will be deeply missed.
Per her wishes, Karen has been taken for cremation with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. McWilliams Funeral Home has been entrusted with her care.
