Karl Von Helfenstein of Mount Pleasant, SC died in his sleep on March 20, 2023. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama on November16, 1981. Karl then lived in West Springfield, Virginia and Sumter, SC while his father finished a career in the US Air Force.
In 1988, Karl and family (father Bill, mother Donna and sister Kara) moved to Hobcaw Creek Plantation in Mount Pleasant. Karl graduated from Belle Hall Elementary, Moultrie Middle School and Wando High School. His academics followed by earning an Associates degree in Business from Trident Technical College.
Karl's employment included working for his father in the visual arts business and as maintenance technician for his own company and for commercial rental and senior living facilities. Karl took great care to understand client needs and to provide them effective solutions. He was well recognized as a friendly, outgoing, hard and smart performer.
When Karl was little, we learned that he could climb out of his crib after we caught him climbing back in. In school, his teachers often broke out in laughter when he attempted to explain his behavior. He loved boating and fishing - fresh water and salt. He loved animals and taking good care of them. He also enjoyed travel to the Grand Canyon, Canadian Rockies, Cancun, historical New England and Bavaria Germany. Above all, he cherished his son Taylor and provided him the attention, care and love that a child deserves.
Karl left behind his son Taylor, father Bill, step-mother Effie Amerson, sister Kara Brewton and her husband Nathan and their son Harrison, his former in-laws Myra and David Jones, fiance Sarah Godwin and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Karl is predeceased by his mother Donna Kirker Helfenstein and his former wife Chrissy Helfenstein. We all will miss Karl dearly.
Karl's life will be celebrated on May 6, 2023 at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel at 2:00 pm. A private interment for family only will follow.
