Karl J. Winar, a dedicated construction professional and beloved family man, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. He was 63 years old. Born on March 1, 1962, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Karl was the son of the late Joseph and Veronica (Matunas) Winar. He grew up in Roselle, NJ, but had resided in Flemington, NJ since 1997.
He devoted his life to the construction industry, most recently serving as a construction superintendent for Grove Contracting in Verona, NJ. His hard work ethic and ability to connect with others made him a respected figure in his field, and he was known for his genuine interest in the lives of those around him.
Karl held a unique ability to engage in conversation, establishing a rapport with individuals within minutes. His outgoing personality and sincere curiosity endeared him to many, making him a cherished friend and colleague. Alongside his professional life, he was a huge music fan, appreciating a wide range of music genres that enriched his life and brought joy to those he shared it with.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife of 38 years, Patricia A. (Hansson) Winar, whom he married on June 4, 1988. He is also survived by his son, Karl John Winar II and his wife Danielle, his daughter, Elizabeth Cady and her husband, Matthew, and his six adoring grandchildren: Tay, KJ III, Cash, Bowie, Cooper, and Charlotte. Karl's pride in his family was evident, particularly in the special relationships he forged with each of his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "Pop." He found immense joy in spending time with them, relishing every playful moment.
Additional survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Deb Winar; his sister, Karen Gicking; and his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa A. and Bill Muller, along with several nieces and nephews who were fortunate to have him in their lives.
Predeceased by his parents, Karl was also preceded in death by his brother, Philip Winar, and his nephew, Thomas Winar.
A public viewing will be held on Monday evening, February 9, 2026, at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a eulogy service beginning at 8:00 PM. Cremation and interment will be private.
