Karyl A. Smith, age 84, died peacefully on August 8th, 2025, at Albany Medical Center after a brief battle after suffering a stroke, with her family at her side. Karyl was born on March 5, 1941, in Schenectady, New York and was the daughter of the late Karl G. and Helen (Van Huysen) Anderson.

Karyl attended Schenectady high school and continued her education at SUNY Oneonta and The College of Saint Rose, earning her master's degree in teaching. Karyl was a Certified K-6th Reading Teacher and shared her gift of teaching with many students. She worked at Christ the King School in Guilderland until her retirement in 2006. Karyl earned a special designation from the Catholic Diocese for her dedication to her career.

Karyl met her late husband, Robert "Bob" Smith and the two were wed on April 6, 1969. Together they adopted and raised their two children, Nicholas and Natasha and enjoyed a beautiful life together until Bob's death in 2023. Karyl and Bob enjoyed vacations with their kids, outings with their beloved Dinner Group, and spending time at the family camp at The Great Sacandaga Lake with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and George Moffett and family.

Karyl is survived by her children, Nicholas V. "Nick" Smith and Natasha R. "Tasha" (Bryan) Zickefoose; her sister, Hope Anderson and her dear nieces and nephews Stephen Manogue, Joseph "Mark" Manogue, Phillip Manogue, Carol J. Daley, Ann Kaskel, Mary (Michael) Moffett, and Michael Riley.

In addition to her parents, Karyl is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert A. Smith; her sister, Mary Lou Moffett, her brother-in-law George Moffett, and her nephews and niece, Michael Moffett, Christopher Moffett, and Kelly Riley.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Butler, and held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park, NY.

Interment will be held at a later date, in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to City Mission of Schenectady, PO Box 760, Schenectady, NY 12301 or to St. Edward the Confessor Church-Stained Glass Fund.
