Karyn M. Becking

Karyn Mary Becking, age 83, of Florence, SD, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at her residence. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Florence, SD. Father Christopher Hughes will be the celebrant.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday prior to the Mass.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Lance Becking, Nathan Kropuenske, Westin Kropuenske, Adam Hagen, Tim Wishard, Ryan White and Rick Borkhuis.
Karyn was born on March 21, 1941, in Watertown, SD, to Peter and Verena (Dally) Berkemo. She grew up on a farm in Henry and graduated from Henry High School in 1960.
On September 2, 1961, Karyn married Richard Becking in Henry. The couple was blessed with three children: Todd, Sheila and Bill. She worked at F&M bank in Watertown and then stayed home to farm and raise her children. As the children grew up, she worked at Lew's Fireworks for many years, making every 4th of July memorable for her family. Karyn spent the last 15 years working as a janitor at the Florence School and had just retired in May.
Karyn was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence. Her hobbies included knitting and working at the school. The highlight of her day was helping them serve breakfast to the kids and visiting with Laurie in the kitchen. She loved her grandchildren very much and followed them in all their extra-curricular activities from sports to showing cattle. Karyn also adored her great-grandchildren and was quick to teach them where her candy stash was at.
Karyn is survived by her children: Todd (Darla) Becking of Watertown, SD, and Bill (Sheila) Becking of Florence, SD; her son-in-law, Glen Kropuenske of Humboldt, SD; seven grandchildren: Lance (Kelsey) Becking of Florence, SD, Holly (Nick) Delaney of Lake Benton, MN, Halley Becking of Watertown, SD, Karlie (Adam Hagen) Becking of Watertown, SD, Alisha (Andy) Janes of Denver, CO, Nathan (Kimberly) Kropuenske of Neenah, WI, and Westin (Heather) Kropuenske of Pipestone, MN; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Aleta White of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-laws: Karen (Duane) Murphy of Scottsdale, AZ, and Karyl Wishard of Watertown, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Karyn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Sheila Kropuenske; her parents, Peter and Verena; and her sister, Delores "Sonie" Sasse.
