Kata Anne Carter, 39, of Indianapolis, IN, passed peacefully on August 19th, 2023, at home with her family, after a 5 year battle with cancer. She was born on February 1, 1984, in Pittsburgh, PA.
Kata is survived by her husband, Joseph Carter, her children, Miles, Charlotte, and Rosie, her brother Nathan Hribar (Christine) and their children, Josie and Jacob, all of Boston, MA, and her parents, Allan and Janet Hribar of Pittsburgh, PA.
She graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and from the University of Minnesota with a Master's degree in Nutrition and was certified as a Registered Dietician. During her undergraduate years, she spent a semester abroad studying in Alicante, Spain.
Kata was always involved in activities. She played basketball in elementary school and rowed on an award winning crew team in high school. Her brother taught her how to play ultimate frisbee and she blossomed as a player from there. She played on the Purdue women's team that won a regional championship and played in a national championship tournament in Oregon. In one of the summers, she played on the ultimate frisbee team that won the city-wide Pittsburgh Summer League championship.
She was dedicated to her family, providing loving care to her three young children as a homemaker. She was active in supporting the children's schools and served as the President of the cooperative pre-school her children attended. Through her college experiences, children's school activities and church, she formed many strong, caring friendships. Kata always maintained a positive outlook on life even during the long time that she battled the many cancer treatments and issues, with the loving support of her husband, family, and friends. She also greatly enjoyed gardening as a creative and relaxing activity.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, from noon to 4 at Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue. Addition Visitation will be on Monday, August 28, from 10:30 to 11:30, with a Funeral Mass at 11:30, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 7575 Holiday Drive East.
