Loving Wife, Mother, Grandma & Oma
Age 91, of St. Paul, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 27, 2025.
Katharina was born to Jakob and Elisabeth Walter in Croatia on January 3, 1934. She married Andrew Fleischhacker on March 4, 1950 in Salzburg, Austria. They immigrated to the United States with Andrew, Jr., in October of 1951. They settled in St. Paul, MN, and later had their daughter, Diana. Over the years, as their family grew, she enjoyed babysitting for her granddaughters and then later for her great-grandchildren.
Cooking and caring for her family meant everything to Katharina. She was known to everyone as an excellent cook and baker. Their door was always open to visitors, and she always made sure everyone had something to eat. She loved spending time in the garden, taking walks on the sunny side of the street, and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee.
She was a long-time member of the Germanic American Institute and spent many hours working in the kitchen there. She was also a long-time member of the MN Schuhplattler and S.G. Edelweiss, St. Paul, and enjoyed German dancing. As she got older, she loved to watch her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren carry on the German dancing tradition.
Katharina is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, and son, Andrew Jr.
She is survived by daughter, Diana (David) Betts; granddaughters, Amy (Alex), Stephanie (Anthony), Analisa (David), Nicole (Nikolas), Erin (Derek); great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Nikolas Jr., Andrew, Michael, Nora, Andrew, Nolan & Asher.
Visitation 9:30 - 11:00 am Friday, November 7, at St. Stephanus Lutheran Church, 739 Lafond Ave., St. Paul, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am.
Private interment at Elmhurst Cemetery.
