Katharine S. Case, 94, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024. She was born on August 5, 1930, in Jefferson County, MS, to Pervie Smith and Ruth Lambert Smith.
Katharine always held God first, living her life as a Christian woman. She made her entire life about serving others, even in her final days in the nursing home. She had a servant’s heart and a beautiful soul that her family will always cherish. She worked as a nurse for Baptist Hospital. She was a member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church and loved spending time with her family and others, gardening, and sewing. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years Willard Burton Case, Sr.; her son Burt Case; her brother Robert Smith; her sisters Lynne Dix and Ann Taylor; and her grandson Jason Case, who served in the Army.
She is survived by her son Lee Case (Pam) of Florence, MS; her grandchildren Tricia Nelson-Easley (Charles), Stephanie Case, Bryan Nelson, Tobi Case (Brittany), and Cortney Greer (Daniel); her great-grandchildren Elizabeth Easley, Audrey Gleason (Jake), Jackson Case (Madison), Benton Case, Tristan Case, Charlotte Rose Case, Molly Nelson, Malia Case, Jesse Greer, and Emma-Katharine Greer (who was named after her); and her great-great-grandchildren Brooklyn Bush, Foster Gleason, Aubree Johnson, and another great-great grandson on the way.
Ms. Katharine’s visitation will take place at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held at the same location on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a chapel service to follow. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS, following her chapel service.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Greer and Bryan Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Smith, Charles Easley, and Tobi Case.
