Katharyn Leona Herndon, passed away on May 20, 2025, at the age of 76, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on January 26, 1949, in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Fithian & Olive Faries. Katharyn's warmth and kindness touched all who knew her throughout her remarkable life.
Katharyn's legacy is lovingly carried on by her adoring children, Russell Herndon (Barb), Matthew Herndon (Sarah), Jennifer Brackett (Josh), Gregory Herndon (LeAnn), Ken Herndon (Barbara), Cathy Weishaar (Larry), and Susie Sipes, her sister Paige Faries, 26 grandchildren,43 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert E. Herndon.
Dedicating over four decades to Methodist Hospital's Labor & Delivery Unit, Nurse Katharyn earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues through her unwavering compassion and commitment to the countless families she supported in bringing new life into the world and the mentorship she provided to the countless nurses she met along the way.
A woman of diverse interests, Katharyn's joy was found in the pages of a good book, the adventures of travel, events with her fraternity Alpha Xi Delta, and, above all else, the moments shared with her extensive family. Her loving nature etched a lasting impression on the hearts of those fortunate to have known her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 5 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church located at 2601 E. Thompson Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Visitation will be held from 3-6pm with a memorial service starting at 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her fraternity Alpha Xi Delta, AWHONN, or St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.
