Katherine "Katie" Colleen O'Meara, age 48, of Minnesota, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, with her family by her side, following a courageous and hard-fought battle with leukemia.
Katie was born on September 28, 1976, in Cambridge, Minnesota, to Patrick and Carol O'Meara. From an early age, she brought joy, kindness, and resilience to those around her. She shared a close bond with her brother, Gannon, and held family at the center of her life.
Though she had known Ryan Hust for many years, it wasn't until 2007 that Katie and Ryan's friendship grew into something more. She quickly realized he was the one. Together, they helped raise Ryan's son, Adam Hust, and later welcomed their beloved daughter, Emma Hust-O'Meara, in August of 2009. Though Ryan passed away in 2011, Katie remained a devoted mother and raised Emma with unwavering love, strength, and grace.
Katie had a kind and giving heart, and she touched the lives of many with her quiet strength, loyalty, and devotion to those she loved. She also had a deep love for animals-especially cats-and found great comfort and companionship in her orange tabby, Lucky, who was never far from her side for the many years they shared together.
She is survived by her cherished daughter, Emma Hust-O'Meara; her step-son, Adam Hust; her mother, Carol (Harvey Self) Hanken; her stepmother, Nancy Larson; her brother, Gannon (Kristine) O'Meara of Farmington, Minnesota; stepbrothers John (Nancy) Hanken and David Hanken; nieces and nephews Emma, Alex, and Kailey Smith, and Graysen O'Meara; her aunt Dianne (Arlyn) Lamb of Farmington, Minnesota; cousins Tanya (Brian) Strese and Carin (Dave) Worrell; her in-laws, Les and Zandra (Braaten) Hust; and many close friends and extended relatives who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her fiancé, Ryan Hust; her father, Patrick O'Meara; her stepfather, Robert "Bob" Hanken; her stepbrother, Matt Hanken; grandparents Albert and Theolyn Weimerskirch, and Frank and Doris O'Meara; and her uncle Dennis O'Meara.
Katie will be laid to rest beside her father at St. Otto's Catholic Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
