Katherine “Katie” Dodge Prochazka, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and aunt passed away on December 11, 2024, at the age of 50.
Katie was born on August 1, 1974, and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. A gifted athlete, she made her mark as one of Nebraska's most accomplished swimmers. During her time at Burke High School, Katie set numerous state records and earned an incredible 11 gold medals in swimming over her four-year career. She was recognized as a High School All-American and helped lead Burke to state team championships every year she competed. In addition to swimming, Katie excelled as a track athlete and was a proud member of the school’s dance team, the Burkettes.
Her success continued at the University of Kansas, where Katie competed on a swimming scholarship. She set records and achieved remarkable victories at various meets and the Big 8 Championships, and proudly represented her university at the NCAA Championships. She was also honored as a Collegiate All-American for her exceptional performances.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in education, Katie pursued her passion for teaching. She later earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and dedicated her career to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher in Omaha.
Katie’s greatest joy was her family. She loved cheering on her children, Ellie, Teddy, and Henry, in their activities, from dance team to football, always one of their proudest supporters. Her deep admiration for her children’s accomplishments filled her with happiness and gratitude. She cherished them dearly with all her heart.
Katie is survived by her beloved children, Ellie (Ryan) Samuelson, Teddy, and Henry; her loving parents, Tom and Linda Chapeau; her brother, Andy (Monica) Chapeau; her nephews, Bronson and Roman Chapeau; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Katie’s life will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Roeder Mortuary at 2727 N. 108th Street, Omaha, NE 68164.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nebraska Medicine Liver Transplant Excellence Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Katie’s kindness, determination, and loving spirit touched the lives of so many. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
