Katherine Lois Austin Lackey

Katherine Lois Austin Lackey, 76, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Autumn Care of Marion.

Katherine was born in McDowell County on May 22, 1949 to the late Andrew Austin and Cleone Cox Tumbleston.

A member of Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church, she loved the Lord and cherished her church family. Katherine took great pride in her yard and was an avid flower gardener. She was a NASCAR fan and an avid fan of the University of Tennessee football. She was known as a great cook and will be especially remembered for her baking. A wonderful mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Austin, Michael “Bobby” Austin, and Kenneth Austin.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Young (Trina) and Scott Young; three grandchildren, Laken Young (Brandi), Hunter Young (Bailey), and Tanner Young (Piper); and eight great-grandchildren, Ivy, Sabrina, Delilah, Thatcher, Morgan, Henry, Austin, Etta, and two more on the way. Katherine is also survived by a number of beloved cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donald Justice officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
