Katherine R. MacDermott, age 95 of Wakefield, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Woburn on June 8, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Todesca) Romano.
Katherine grew up in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School, 1948. She had been a resident of Wakefield since 1950 and was a retired clerk from the Wakefield Savings Bank. She was a former member of the St. Josephs Mothers Club. She loved the ocean and York Beach, Maine. She was an avid reader and loved to knit. She loved making blankets for all her kids and grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth R. McDermott. She was the loving mother of Kenneth MacDermott of Kingston, NH, and Janice Iosua and her husband Robert of Wakefield. She was the sister of Benjamin Romano of Hampstead, NH, Florence Tully of Woburn, and the late James Romano, Joseph Romano, and Mae Glennon.
She was Yia to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
6 Grandchildren: Robert Iosua and his wife, Kelly; James Iosua and his wife, Potula; Jared Iosua and his fiancé, Caitlynn Rexford; Joseph MacDermott; Joshua MacDermott and his partner, Maryanne Stanton; Jacob MacDermott.
14 Great Grandchildren: Chloe, Calum, Cyptin, Bryce, Alexis, Jaxson, Harper and Aayla Iosua. Jonathan, Jade, Juliette, Jace, Jason and Jaden MacDermott.
She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, Ma on Monday, February 9, 2026 beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m for relatives and friends. There will be no funeral services.
A special thank you to All Care Hospice, Erika and Tanya, for taking such good care of her in her final days.
