Edward W. "Ted" MacDermott, of Marshfield, formerly of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 85.

Ted was the beloved husband of 64 years to Carole (Mastropietro) MacDermott. He was the devoted father of Kevin MacDermott and his wife Andrea of North Carolina, Todd MacDermott and his wife Paula of Hanover, MA, and the late Teddy MacDermott. Proud “Grampy” to Ryan, Tyler, Tedy, Maddux, and Connor. He was the cherished son of Walter and Elizabeth MacDermott, and son-in-law of Joseph and Katherine Mastropietro. Ted was also the loving brother of the late Paul MacDermott and Patricia Sullivan, and a treasured uncle to Jennifer, Allison, Sarah, Cheryl, and Sean.

A graduate of Weymouth High School (Class of ’57) and Boston University (Class of ’62), Ted dedicated his career to education and athletics as a respected teacher and coach of football, baseball, and hockey at Cohasset High School. His mentorship and leadership left a lasting impact on generations of students and athletes.

Ted’s passion for landscaping and the beautification of his yard was legendary—his home was a place of pride and welcome, admired by all who visited. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ted was a devoted fan of Boston’s teams, especially the Patriots, for whom he held season tickets for many years. He often reminisced about his early experiences at Braves Field and Boston Arena, but his most cherished sports memories were those spent playing softball with his three sons and participating in the father-son baseball tournament in Arizona.

Above all, Ted found his greatest joy in being a grandfather. He rarely missed a game and was always at the front of the line to congratulate his grandsons. His unwavering support and love were constants in their lives.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 4–8 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth, located at 809 Main Street (Route 18, opposite South Shore Hospital).

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:45 AM on Friday, October 24, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 11:30 AM. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Weymouth.

Donations in memory of Ted may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
