Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stockbridge Funeral Home LLC - Exeter on Jan. 14, 2026.
Thomas William MacDermott, 92, of Kingston New Hampshire died peacefully on December 19, 2025. Born May 16, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Tom was the eldest son of Thomas J. MacDermott and Margaret Greany MacDermott. He was raised in New Rochelle, New York.

Tom graduated from Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y. and then attended Fordham University. Tom loved the circus and left college to work for the Cole Brothers Circus. After the circus Tom pursued his passion for journalism and worked as a newspaper reporter. A few years after his father's death Tom entered the food service industry to help his mother run the family business, the T. J. McDermott Corporation in Manhattan. After the TJ. MacDermott Corporation closed in the early 1970s. Tom continued with the food service industry joining Seiler Corporation as the head of the school and college division. In 1995 Tom created Clarion Group, which helped companies, colleges, and schools to maximize the value of their in-house dining and hospitality services. He continued to provide his services until the fall of 2025. His colleagues reported that Tom was very respected in the food service industry and that his customers enjoyed his stories about working for the circus and as a newspaper reporter in the early 1950s.

Tom is survived by his three sons, Thomas J. MacDermott, John MacDermott (Liz), and Christopher MacDermott (Amy), his granddaughter Grace, his brother Bob MacDermott (Barb), sister Virginia Damseaux (Art), as well as six nephews and one niece. He is also survived by his companion Karen (Karine) Paterna. Tom was predeceased by his parents, his wife and the mother of his sons, Mary Jane Cianciulli MacDermott, his eldest son Joseph MacDermott, and his sister Jane MacDermott Hernandez.

A Mass for Tom will be held at 10:00 AM on May 2, 2026, at St. Michael's Church in Exeter, New Hampshire. There are no calling hours.
