May Belle Patch

"Nana May"

April 19th, 1929 - January 7th 2026

May Belle (Harrigan, Nigro) Patch passed away on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026 surrounded by family. She graduated from Hingham High in 1947, received her Associates in Liberal Arts from Massasoit C.C. in Brockton in 1973, as well as her Bachelors in Sociology from Bridgewater State in 1977. May worked as a social worker notably through Catholic Charities and Old Colony Elderly Service, both in Brockton, MA. May was known for her immense resilience, her support, her humor, her quiet and soothing personality, and her heart. Also notable was her caring nature towards others. May was a talented artist who loved antiques, bird watching, gardening, museums, and history. She loved spending time with her family while enjoying a cup of tea and smiling at the stories they'd tell her, offering wisdom or humorous solutions of her own.

Preceded in death by her father, Harold W. Harrigan; her mother, May B. Harrigan (McPhee); her brother, Harold W. Harrigan Jr.; her first husband, George A. Nigro Sr.; and her second husband, Fletcher K. Patch.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura M. Nigro; her granddaughter, Emily M. Bartlett; her son, George A. Nigro Jr. and his fiancée Iani Moreno; her grandson, George A. Nigro III; and many other loved ones.

Services will be private with her immediate family present.

May touched the lives of everyone around her and her legacy lives on in the birds flying in the sky and the many sweets left to be enjoyed.
