Katherine Pfeifer Obituary

Katherine "Kathy" Ann Laubach Pfeifer passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024.
She was born in Alexandria, Va., on May 20, 1951, to James and Lois (Howenstein) Laubach. Her family returned to their native Pittsburgh, where Kathy attended Chartiers Valley High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh.
Kathy began her teaching career in the Bethel Park School District in 1973 at Hillcrest Elementary School, then moved on to Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. She taught second grade and Summer Academy courses while advocating for her students and colleagues as union representative for the Bethel Park Federation of Teachers.
She was an active member of the Evans City Chapter of Business and Professional Women through the 1990s and early-2000s and served on the board of the Evans City Public Library for 22 years.
Kathy retired from Bethel Park School District in 2008 after 35 years of teaching, during which she mentored many student teachers and met many colleagues who became cherished friends. Kathy joined the staff of the Child Care Center at Harmony-Zelienople Global Methodist Church, where she taught preschool following her retirement.
Kathy enjoyed traveling with her family and corresponding with friends and family through cards, letters and sharing news articles. Her warmth, generosity and supportive nature were ever-present. She was an avid reader and encouraged this love in her students, her own children and in her beloved granddaughter throughout the years.
A loving mother and devoted friend, Kathy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Randy Pfeifer; her daughter, Ann Pfeifer, and her husband, Brian Yeagle, and their daughter, Alma; her son, Alan Pfeifer, and his spouse, Kae Pfeifer; her sister, Debbie Butler, and her wife, Cindy Gutierrez; her brother, Andrew Laubach; her sister-in-law, Nancy (David) Laubach; as well as many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she held dear.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Lois; and her younger brother, David Laubach.
